Françoise Ducroz got in touch through this website’s contact form.
She had started a blog using WordPress and “taken it as far as she could without help”. Her initial request was to help with making it multilingual, some “behind the scenes” stuff and developing a mailing list.
Through some email communication it was agreed that I would spend a couple of hours looking through the site and developing a document as a brief. This would cost 80€ and would be a comprehensive assessment of the site and recommendations for ways forward. Françoise would then be able to pick and choose what she wanted to do and also take it to anyone else as a brief to get a quote.
We established early on that the site was built on Gadaddy using their “custom” WordPress installation. At this stage the first thing to decide was whether to stay as a custom installation and be tied to Godaddy or to convert the site to a stand alone installation.
There are pros and cons to both. The custom install comes with some additional premium plugins and services, e.g. backups. A stand alone version is completely moveable allowing the owner to migrate the site from one host to another and not being held prisoner by a host.
It was decided to stay with Godady and develop the site there.
The website is now in French as well as English and is optimised for search engines. There’s a form for subscribing to to a newsletter which is linked to mailerlite for managing newsletters.
Françoise now has capacity to develop posts and pages in two languages using the theme settings to help her standardise layouts. She also understands the basics of making her blog posts and images search engine friendly.
The site has a basic Privacy Policy for GDPR compliance.
The website is regularly backed up and some advanced security has been applied.
Françoise has taken on a regular maintenance contract to manage backups, maintain updates and manage site security. This also allows her an element of ongoing support on a regular basis.
